Biography
[Edit]The brother of pop cult hero Marshall Crenshaw and a fine singer/songwriter in his own right, Robert Crenshaw was born and raised in suburban Detroit, becoming infatuated with music while still a toddler. Given a set of drums, he patterned his playing after the primal style of the Who's Keith Moon, and with his siblings regularly performed the top rock'n'roll hits of the day; when the Crenshaw family acquired a reel-to-reel tape machine in the early '70s, both Robert and Marshall began writing and recording their own material as well. By the age of 17 Robert was also drumming in a local oldies band, eventually moving to New York City to study recording and later working under Atlantic Records co-founder Herb Abramson. When Marshall arrived in New York in 1978 the Crenshaws formed a band, and in the decade to follow Robert backed his brother on tour and on record; he also continued working on his own material, and in 1998 finally issued his solo debut Full Length Stereo Recordings. Mid-2000 saw the release of Victory Songs.
