Biography

[Edit]

Seminal Danish electronic trio Future 3 first began making waves in the mid-'90s with the release of their critically acclaimed debut album, We Are the Future 3. Members Anders Remmer, Thomas Knak, and Jesper Skaaning met in Copenhagen's booming ambient/chillout scene, eventually joining forces to create their own brand of deeply chilled electropop pieces. Following their 1995 debut, they returned with their sophomore outing, 1998's Stay with the Future 3, which included their hit "The Boy from West-Bronx," a song that garnered international attention and airplay from MTV and other major outlets. In addition to their own tracks, Future 3 also remixed songs for artists like Coldcut and Shantel before releasing their third album, 2011's Like the Future 3. Later that year Knak produced several tracks for Björk's Vespertine album and the group began a subtle shift that would find its members branching out in multiple directions. In 2002, the three musicians launched an alternate project called System and released a dub record. In the coming years, all three members would continue to collaborate even as they pursued their own solo endeavors. Remmer began operating as Dub Tractor, Knak as Opiate, and Skaaning as Acustic. They joined forces again in 2006, this time under the name People Press Play with the help of vocalist Sara Savery. Another System EP arrived the following year as the Future 3 banner continued to stay on hiatus. Following a performance as System at Copenhagen's Strøm Festival in 2010, they began working on what would eventually become Future 3's long-awaited fourth LP. A mix of the more song-based collaborations of their later projects and the textured ambience of their earlier work, 2014's With and Without was released by Morr Records.
