An underground Bay Area vet, Yukmouth got his start as half of The Luniz, best known for the timeless 1995 smoke-out anthem "I Got 5 on It." Since then, he's stayed busy releasing a grip of solo albums, including Thugged Out: The Albulation, Million Dollar Mouthpiece, and The West Coast Don, but he's never matched his early commercial success. On Dragon Gang, Yukmouth assembles a dream team of NorCal hustle rappers, hooking up with Dru Down, Lee Majors, Ampichino, Young Bossi, Chino Nino, T Lew, Boss Tone, and more. Rambunctious, crime-centric rhymes and sweeping, funk-driven beats dominate, as Yuk and friends sound off about the usual subject: making money via nefarious means. Despite the one-dimensional lyricism, they're clearly devoted to the lifestyle. And there are some fantastic tracks here—namely "Go Nutz (Remix)," "Dreams," and the reflective, sensitive-thug jam "On My Own."
