[Edit]

One of a colorful string of Wilbur DeParis Atlantic recordings (all of which are quite difficult to find), this set contains more Dixieland warhorses than usual (only the leader's "Malta" and "Change O' Key Boogie" are lesser-known) but the frameworks and colorful solos uplift the music. While "That's A Plenty" and "Waiting for the Robert E. Lee" are taken at racehorse tempoes, "Mack the Knife" and "In a Persian Market" are more relaxed. The trombonist-leader is joined by his brother Sidney (who due to ill health is only on four of the nine selections) and Doc Cheatham on trumpets, clarinetist Omer Simeon, pianist Sonny White, guitarist John Smith, bassist Hayes Alvis and drummer Wilbert Kirk for the well varied and highly enjoyable program.
