[Edit]Karl Bšhm was one of the last and best links between the late Romantic age of Vienna and the modern age of stereo recording. A close friend of Richard Strauss, he was also heir to the tradition of Mahler through the great composer-conductor's protegŽ, Bruno Walter. He helped to preserve the city's illustrious musical legacy through World War II with his authoritative interpretations of those eminent Vienna-dwellers Beethoven and Schubert in particular, so we are fortunate indeed to have these spectacular stereo recordings of Beethoven's beloved "Pastoral" Symphony and an uplifting performance of one of Schubert's most joyful compositions.
