Low Water is an authentic guitar-driven rock ‘n’ roll band with pop sensibilities and a laid-back approach. The Taste You Know and Enjoy, their fourth release, finds the Brooklyn-based quartet settling nicely into their own sound. Anchored by memorable melodies, strong harmonies, thoughtful lyrics, and the sandpapery pipes of lead singer John Leitera the album flows smoothly while offering a good variety of songs. Beginning with the dynamic opener, “He’s Takin’ Names,” they deliver mid-tempo gems (“My Life In Advertising,” “I Amplify,” “Consuela”), some well-paced ballads (“Me and St. Hubert,” “Down Swingin’”), and a pair of brief instrumental vignettes for texture. The album’s centerpiece, “Sideways Sonnet,” begins at a simmer and slowly builds to a dramatic finish that’s built around a tough guitar lick. Featuring no frills and no filler, The Taste You Know and Enjoy is a classic sounding and beautifully crafted release.
