Narrated by his daughter Nora, My Name Is New York takes the listener on an audio travelogue across the Big Apple as it retraces the path of the legendary Woody Guthrie. Interviews with old friends like Pete Seeger, Bob Dylan, and Ramblin’ Jack Elliott are interspersed with rare home recordings of Guthrie performing both his famous and lesser-known tunes. What comes through most is Woody’s idealism and fighting spirit, as well as the depth of his musical talent. An added disc of Guthrie rarities and cover versions by the likes of The Del McCoury Band and Billy Bragg rounds out this fascinating chronicle of an iconic folk artist’s struggles and triumphs.
