UFO practically invented pop-metal and provided a template for future hitmakers such as Def Leppard. The band (with singer Phil Mogg, bassist Pete Way, and ex-Scorpions guitarist Michael Schenker) crafted the radio rampage “Too Hot to Handle,” which masters the perfect balance of hard four-chord riffage with “sha-la-la” refrains. Mogg’s pleasing tenor gives emotional heft to the guitar-piano rocker “Just Another Suicide.” Producer Ron Nevison (The Babys, Led Zeppelin) wisely added lush strings, which are fully utilized on the tender “Try Me” and the seven-minute mini-epic “Love for Love.” This set includes four well-recorded live versions of album cuts recorded in London in 1977.
