Trombonist Turk Murphy's band played at Easy Street (a club he owned for a time) in San Francisco regularly during the fall and winter of 1958. Three albums of radio broadcasts were issued, and this is the first LP. Murphy and his septet (which at the time included cornetist Bob Short, Jack Crook on clarinet and bass sax, pianist Pete Clute, banjoist Dick Lammi, Al Conger on bass and tuba, and drummer Thad Vandon) are heard on two of their weekly broadcasts, performing six selections on each show, in addition to their theme, "Bay City." The music mixes King Oliver and Jelly Roll Morton classics with a few standards and gives listeners a good idea of how the band sounded live during this period. Among the selections of this worthwhile release are "Sobbin' Blues," "Canal Street Blues," "Milenburg Joys" and "When You and I Were Young Maggie Blues."
