A typically Kranky release: Sequence of the Negative Space Changes is a beatless and verging-on-ambient stew of drones, bubbles and chirps the label describes as "the sound of robots singing to themselves." Interestingly enough, Tomorrowland avoids out-and-out ambient territory through their use of guitars, slight percussion, and loops, which give their compositions a bubbly pulse that's slightly more structured than the indistinct washes of truly ambient recordings — some of the textures created on Sequence... may approach a more spacy take on Kranky releases by Stars of the Lid, but the record's robotic, semi-rhythmic sense finds a lovely compromise between downbeat electronica and complete ambience.
