Travelin' Highway Man is an excellent, 20-track overview of recordings Tommy McClennan made between 1939 and 1942, offering many of his greatest recordings — "Bottle It Up and Go," "Whiskey Head Woman," "My Baby's Gone," "It's Hard to Be Lonesome," "New Shake 'Em On Down" — as well as a thorough biography, making this a cornerstone of any comprehensive Delta blues collection. However, its usefulness has been diminished, since RCA's double-disc set Bluebird Recordings 1939-1942 offers everything that Travelin' Highway Man has in better fidelity; it also has twice the music.
