As one of the two vocal frontmen for the dynamite Sonora Ponceña, and later a featured star for Grupo Niche, Tito Gomez has dozens of standout performances in his repertoire — but without the name recognition of solo stars like Héctor Lavoe or Cheo Feliciano. The compilation La Herencia rectifies the situation somewhat, collecting tracks from most of his best recordings (although Grupo Niche recordings belong to MP, not Fania). Among the 16 tracks are three from Sonora Ponceña and five from his best early solo album, 1977's Para Gozar Borinquen (produced by Larry Harlow, Fania's best in-house producer and the person who made the most of Sonora Ponceña's late-'60s and early-'70s recordings).
