This soundtrack to the 1979 film The Kids Are Alright features live performances and alternate takes of popular Who songs in a loose, unpredictable framework that makes for an exciting album experience. Things start with The Who performing "My Generation" on The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour" in 1967 and goes from there to follow the band onto the stages of Shindig!, Leeds University, Ready Steady Go!, Woodstock, and Kilburn. Highlights include The Who's 1968 performance of "A Quick One, While He's Away" from The Rolling Stones Rock and Roll Circus and the demolition of Mose Allison's "Young Man Blues" from the Coliseum in London on Dec. 14, 1969. John Entwistle's "My Wife" from Kilburn in December 1977—not included in the film—showed The Who in good latter-day form, along with live versions of "Baba O'Riley" and "Won't Get Fooled Again" recorded May 25, 1978, at Shepperton Film Studios in London. The soundtrack serves as a great summary of the original Who.
