Quirky, jangled nerdy rock with catchy riffs and a passionate demeanor, something like an amalgam of the Dismemberment Plan, At the Drive-In, and Shellac. Produced by Bob Weston and fronted by an ex-member of Cursive, Menergy has a lot going for it before it even becomes audio waves. Ten tracks pieced together from choppy, angular rhythms with driving guitars and throaty, eloquent vocals. This actually has a common ground between those who enjoy simple, poppy indie rock and those who want more jarring arrangements. In other words, it is straightforward enough to be widely palatable, yet weird enough to maintain interest. While not a perfect record, Menergy is full of enough energy and interesting conceptions that it is probably worth checking out if you are interested in any of the aforementioned bands, or others such as Jawbox or Les Savy Fav.
