Jazz trumpeter/composer/educator Wynton Marsalis often mentions how the only jazz he heard on TV in his youth was Vince Guaraldi’s music for Peanuts specials. First released in 1965, A Charlie Brown Christmas is the most beloved and influential of those soundtracks. In addition to revisiting the joyful “Linus and Lucy” from the previous year’s A Boy Named Charlie Brown, this holiday classic introduced the pianist’s standard “Christmas Time is Here” in both instrumental and vocal forms as well his popular “Skating” and “Christmas is Coming.” Traditional carols, including Mel Torme’s (accent ague over the "e") “The Christmas Song,” are also given cool piano jazz trio treatments. This Expanded Version features “Greensleeves” plus composition a piece from the Peanuts' Halloween and Thanksgiving programs.
