Details
[Edit]Born in Germany, George Frideric Handel (1685-1759) spent most of his life in England, where he composed a body of work that made him a titan of the Baroque Period. His 1741 oratorio Messiah celebrates the life, death and resurrection of Christ, and has become a triumphant favourite of the Christmas and Easter seasons. Under the direction of Harry Christophers, The Sixteen renders the beloved work on “period instruments”—so-called because they are historically accurate recreations of the instruments used at the time of the composition.
