Crafted to look like a reissue of a 1967 soundtrack to an American horror B-movie, Give Daddy the Knife Cindy is actually a garage-rock album performed by the mid-'80s version of The Damned. Singer Dave Vanian is Naz Nomad. Drummer Rat Scabies is Nick Detroit. The band makes its way through The Litter's "Action Woman," The Seeds' "The Wind Blows Your Hair," Paul Revere & The Raiders' "Kicks," The Electric Prunes' "I Had Too Much to Dream (Last Night)," and Them's "I Can Only Give You Anything" before finishing with two originals: "(Do You Know) I Know" and "Just Call Me Sky." The performances are period-perfect, with a vintage keyboard joining that mutant strain of fuzz that guitars used throughout the mid-'60s. The songs are all in hard stereo, with instruments often sent to a dedicated speaker. Aside from this slightly odd choice, the album is a perfect tribute to music that was often overlooked at the time, until listeners got serious about their Nuggets and Pebbles garage-rock collections.
