Details
[Edit]The individual tracks here are quite compelling. “Preservation” is a fine single with a tight compact rock punch. “Sweet Lady Genevieve” is a folk-rock tune that stands with the band’s best material. “Daylight” is a bit ornate, but it still features much of what fans have come to love about Davies. “Where Are They Now?” comes across like mid-'70s folk-rock with an arrangement Dylan would use to great effect on Blood on the Tracks. “One of the Survivors” is a straightforward rocker. “Sitting in the Midday Sun” may not be “Sunny Afternoon,” but it’s a likable lay-about tune. If the palace of excess truly leads to the palace of wisdom, then The Kinks’ Ray Davies is a prime candidate for the throne.
