This live album, recorded during The Fall's 1981 U.S. tour, was originally released as an eight-track LP, featuring three songs ("Hip Priest," "Deer Park," "Winter") that would appear on 1982's Hex Enduction Hour and the forthcoming single "Lie Dream of a Casino Soul," alongside tracks from Grotesque and Slates. The performances are raw and fascinating, hailing from Chicago, New York, San Francisco, Houston, and Memphis. The punk era was giving way to new wave and guitar-heavy post-punk. Mark E. Smith was clearly exploring an alternate post-punk that specialized in a heavily lyrical, deliberately grinding attack, limitless in its application. This edition of the album has four bonus tracks also from the tour (recorded in Boston and New Orleans), including a lo-fi and demanding version of "Session Musician" where Smith seems none too impressed: "All they talk about is equipment." Throughout the years a sizable amount of live recordings and albums have surfaced, while the original releases retain charm and authority.
