Details

[Edit]

This 2013 collection has been remastered from the original tapes to sound louder, clearer, and more vibrant than ever. The contents feature all the singles and b-sides that The Damned released with the Chiswick label, plus the complete 1981 Friday the 13th EP. The group's Chiswick era was 1979 through 1981: the time of Machine Gun Etiquette and The Black Album, albums number three and four in the band's catalog. Along with The Damned's earliest days at Stiff Records, these singles are considered the best the group ever did. The most difficult-to-find track had been The Damned's cover of The Rolling Stones' "Citadel," a tune from the Stones' misunderstood album Their Satanic Majesties Request and that The Damned featured as the final cut of its long-out-of-print Friday the 13th EP. Also, the Damned/Motörhead collaboration "Over the Top" and the fiddle version of "Anti-Pope" have been hard to track down. Thrown together with such classics as "Love Song," "I Just Can't Be Happy Today," and "There Ain't No Sanity Clause," and you have another excellent summary of a landmark group.
