The Backbeats were formed as a sort of collegiate, a cappella supergroup, with its members drawn from USC, Brigham Young University, UCLA, and the Los Angeles Country High School for the Performing Arts, and after competing on the second season of NBC's The Sing-Off, the group's bright, inventive vocal arrangements of various pop hits earned them a record deal. This debut album, arranged and produced by members Kenton Chen and Ben Bram, expands on that promise with multi-layered vocals on versions of Beyoncé's "If I Were a Boy," Adele's "Turning Tables," Lady Antebellum's "Need You Now," and Sara Bareilles' "Uncharted" (Bareilles herself guests on the version here), among others.
