The Astors actually only have 11 of the 20 tracks on this CD; the other nine belong to the Newcomers, a similarly obscure Stax soul group from later vintage. This has both sides of all five Astors' singles, plus a live version of "Candy" (taken from the Funky Broadway: Stax Revue Live at the 5/4 Ballroom compilation). It's not typical of either Stax or Southern soul in general, but it's nice period soul nonetheless. The Astors' half of the program outshines the Newcomers' by a long shot.
