[Edit]

After moving to Europe in the late 1970s, Thad Jones worked with the Danish Radio Orchestra. In 1979, he formed a European big band in Copenhagen that he called Eclipse. Jones, who was having health problems, is only heard on "Everessence" (where he plays valve trombone), but four of the eight compositions on this set are his, and he also arranged "I Can't Give You Anything But Love." Among the key soloists on the album are several Americans — pianist Horace Parlan, baritonist Sahib Shihab, trumpeter Tim Hagans and trombonist/vocalist Richard Boone — along with trombonist Bjarne Thanning, trumpeter Egon Petersen, altoist Ole Nielsen, Bent Jaedig on tenor, and bassist Jesper Lundgaard (featured on "This Bass Was Made for Walking"). A fine if little-known effort from late in Thad Jones' life.
