No, not Swampwater's RCA album, but the never-released Starday/King record from 1970. As beautiful, lyrical, and unpretentious an album as ever surfaced out of the L.A. country-rock scene, the sounds run the gamut from swamp rock like "Workin' on a Tugboat" to elegant country-rock like "Louisiana Woman" and "Look out Your Window," resplendent in soaring harmonies and a lush mix of acoustic and electric guitars and dobro. There's also the Merle Haggard-style "It's Your Game Mary Jane," the Creedence Clearwater Revival-style "River People," and even one Everly Brothers homage, "Desperation's Back Again." The overall quality of the songs is extremely high and a match for the best country-style albums of the Byrds or the best work Poco ever issued. And it may just beat the Burrito Bros. out, apart from their first three albums. It's all a must-own body of work for anyone who likes the Byrds, Crazy Horse, the Burritos, or the Eagles.
