If you walk down the street of New York City, there's a fair chance you may come across a sidewalk musician, tapping out some interesting rhythms on a makeshift percussion instrument. But few have tried this unorthodox approach in the recording studio, until now. Comprised of three members who look straight out of Good Charlotte or My Chemical Romance, the Street Drum Corps enjoy bopping out a beat on such items as traditional drums, but also buckets, kitchenware, aluminum garbage cans, rain barrels, and marching band equipment. Hooking up with Limp Bizkit's mixmaster, DJ Lethal, the group issued their self-titled debut album in 2006. As a result of Lethal's involvement, there are elements of hip-hop throughout — especially the album's title track, which brings to mind early-'80s break dancing. But other tracks, such as "Flaco 81" and "Bang!!" focus strictly on the percussive side of things. Although interesting at times, there's not much here that the Blue Man Group hadn't already done years ago.
