One of the most impressive new producers to hit the scene recently, Massachusetts native Statik Selektah is probably best known for his work with Termanology, though his tireless work ethic and always- on-point beats have led to collaborations with a growing number of marquee acts, including M.O.P., Saigon, Tek, and O.C. & A.G. Released as a response to his new full-length 100 Proof (The Hangover LP) getting pushed back, The Pre-Game EP holds us over in the meantime, with 25 minutes of razor-sharp rhymes atop Selektah's neck-breaking productions. The guest list is both extensive and diverse, featuring Talib Kweli ("I'm Wit It"), reclusive Philly artist Bahamadia ("Do What I Believe"), and his Show Off Records collective — Term, JFK, Reks, and Kali — on the ferocious introductory number "The Best." Though not yet a household name, with more music like this there is no doubt that Statik has a big future ahead of him.
