Stan Kenton's young "no-name" big band of the 1970s performs ambitious works by Ken Hanna, Hank Levy, Willie Maiden and Bill Holman on this live double LP. The musicianship is impressive and some of the arrangements are quite dramatic but not all that much originality is shown. A lot of soloists are heard from but few of them would have significant jazz careers after their period with Kenton ended; the main exceptions are veteran saxophonist Willie Maiden, trumpeter Mike Vax, trombone Dick Shearer and drummer John Von Ohlen. This set is well-played but forgettable.
