[Edit]Part of Atlanta's the Citizenz DJ crew with her fiancé, DJ Faust, this petite turntable wizard is helping to put both women and the South on the turntablist map. Her inventive debut is a conceptual piece of sorts, with floating, transcendental tracks that flow seamlessly from one into the other like a dream. The esoteric liner notes help interpret the concept, telling the tale of a dreamer who learns through sleep research how to harness the creative energy of her subconscious mind. The story captures The Dreamer's hypnotic feel perfectly, as it moves effortlessly from ethereal, ambient passages to deep dub reggae to slammin' hip-hop grooves. It's a beautiful piece, devoid of the flashy showiness that plagues too many turntablist records while showcasing Shortee's skills and knowledge of music as a whole.
