Shogun unleashes a slab of seething technical metal on Iconoclast, one that leaves a trail of destruction in its wake. Iconoclast is an album that finds its strength in the chaotic noise of Shogun's guitar assault. The guitar innovation is remarkable in its context, although at times it tends to overshadow the other contributions. Shogun's death metal vocal growls seem lost amidst the furious attempts at metal originality, yet when allowed to be heard are a force to be reckoned with. Iconoclast is an album that certainly shows the band's promise, as songs such as "Perth Epic" and "We Other Victorians" stand as beacons to metalheads searching for an album to vent frustrations through. Shogun has proven they are on the right track, and Iconoclast is an album worth listening to just for its solid, heavy fortress of sound. Iconoclast is surely just the beginning, and although it has its obvious weaknesses, it is an album that is relentless in its fury. ~ Jason D. Taylor, Rovi
