[Edit]Shifts is a project of Dutch electronic artist Franz De Waard, also of Kapote Music . His avant-garde experimentation draws heavily from minimalism and improvisation. On this album, released on the Japanese experimental label Meme, the electric guitar is transformed into a generator of droning orchestral sound. Overtones and harmonics are of 100 percent importance on Seven Dots, much like the work of Rafael Toral, who similarly uses the guitar to create sprawling tonal ambience. A highly recommended album for fans of experimental electronica such as Fennesz and Autechre as well as the minimalism of Phill Niblock and Rhys Chatham — both axes are touched on to great effect with Shifts.
