After a number of solo singles and membership in the Wu-Tang Clan's extended family, Shabazz the Disciple finally delivered his first album in late 2003. A long period of time had passed since his prominent appearance on Gravediggaz' "Diary of a Madman" single, so he didn't exactly strike while the iron was hot. Still, there's no denying that this is an album to be reckoned with. While the production work isn't always top-notch, the whole record carries an update of the gritty East Coast sound of the early to mid-'90s, with sources including the likes of the RZA and Premier. Shabazz also gets some valuable assistance from Brand Nubian's Lord Jamar, Group Home's Lil' Dap, Killah Priest, and a handful of other MCs. This is by no means some lost masterpiece, but it's a shame that it didn't reach more listeners.
