“Otro Trago” wasn’t merely a popular song. Sech’s breakout single marked a major moment in música urbana, bucking the genre’s often aggressively masculine norms with his genuine yet streetwise sensibility. As the concurrent R&B singer wave teased out a romantic undertone, the Panamanian singer seemed both part of and distinct from the movement with his exemplary Sueños in 2019. Representing for a country often criminally overlooked in reggaetón history, he follows up that album here as one of Panama’s most visible stars.
A nod to his penchant for hypebeast collector culture, 1 of 1 further reveals Sech as a singular talent. A bona fide dembow balladeer, he taps into the single-ladies spirit of his biggest hit for the complementary “Confía,” buoyed by the presence of the seemingly ageless Daddy Yankee. Similarly, “Relación” celebrates a woman’s liberation from a toxic lover, with Sech’s told-you-so admonitions to the regretful ex punctuating the gravity of their loss and her win. For the trap fanatics, he spits with confidence and unmitigated swagger on “Fe,” while credibly going bar-for-bar with Farruko on the booming “Arriba.”
