Parts Water (Remastered)

Sounding as though it were made in a dark, flooded basement by a lovesick electronic music gear fanatic, Parts Water serves as a perfect example of the audio personality of Safety Scissors. Curry's addition of romantic, abstract vocals to the combination of glitch and dub beats are a refreshing expansion to a subgenre that can sometimes be considered stiff and too mechanical. As found in the track "Your Beautiful Feet," Curry is like an IDM version of a rock heartthrob, leaving the listener feeling as if he is singing to them, or their emotions. Along with the vocals, Curry stretches his talents on the miniature guitar, making him a bit of a futuristic one-man band. The beats rest somewhere between classic Chain Reaction and the Californian sounds that have become identified with the electronic music community of San Francisco- and L.A.-based label Plug Research. A unity in sound that makes sense, considering the Californian native relocated to Berlin in late 2000 to concentrate more on musical endeavors. As the title suggests, all the songs on Parts Water revolve around H2O, whether in lyrics, in title, or their fluid, liquid sound. Though it's easy to tie Curry to the camp consisting of Sutekh and Kit Clayton, his vocals and underlying quirkiness portrayed in his music serves as a vehicle of his own identity in a group of young talent.
