Vamos por Aí / Vamos por Ai

This release by the consecrated duo of American folk/pop/rock Brazilian composers Sá & Guarabyra opens with a curious track ("Ziriguidum tchan"): over an electric pop ballad groove, one of their favorites, they sing lyrics dealing with Brazilians who "sold their soul" to New York ("New York is closer than the hinterlands"), and criticizing rap, hip hop and rock. Sounds contradictory. Brazilian grooves can be found in "Abre essa porta" and "Quintininho e Zé Maria" (both, heavily stylized Northeastern xotes), the rest of the album being dedicated to harmonically/melodically simple straightforward pop ballads. Some typical percussive instruments like triangle add some local color to mainstream arrangements where the dominance is exerted by keyboards and electric band. Their poetry (their stronger point) talks about love, freedom, friendship and love of nature. Ivan Lins appears in "Quem saberia perder."
