Go! Pop! Bang! handsomely rewards the patience of those fans waiting in the wings for M.I.A.’s BFF to do her thing. After being shelved for way too long, Rye Rye’s debut album opens with the Bangladesh produced “Drop” — an appropriate name for a hammer-dropping hit laced with sultry rhymes phrased rapidly over old school 808 beats, hard bass grooves and vintage analogue textures. Anyone who discovered Rye Rye from Maya’s tours will be immediately drawn to the flirty showstopper “Holla Holla” with its deep love for Baltimore funk as well as the sassy “Hotter,” a hard-claiming standout peppered with keyboard hooks and ricochet beats. Akon makes a cameo in “Crazy B*tch,” an acoustic-guitar trimmed duet that plays like a harder OutKast with sidesplitting lyrics that hilariously champion dysfunctional relationships. Tyga also turns up on the boomy dance-floor jam “Shake Twist Drop.” And of course M.I.A. is here in full form starting with the quirky ‘80s flavored “Sunshine.” The Deluxe Version drops six extra tracks, but the street-tough “Bang” proves to be the most infectious.
