Dyer-Bennet's recordings had their place in their day, when folk records of any sort weren't that easy to come by. But several decades on, there's no getting around it: the man sounds prissy. On Vol. 2 he plays 13 traditional songs, accompanied by nothing other than his Spanish guitar. His high, classical-influenced tenor voice is one of a minstrel balladeer relaying rather than living the songs, with a lullaby-type ambience and clear production. As was often the custom on folk releases of the age, the repertoire is taken from numerous nations, including Sweden, Scotland, Ireland, Austria, France, and Germany.
