Rev Hammer's Freeborn John: The Story of John Lilburne — The Leader of the Levellers is a concept album about Lilburne, a 17th-century radical who suffered a number of injustices in order to fight for free speech. Like before, Hammer is supported by the Levellers, as well as Eddie Reader and Maddy Prior, who take individual roles in this latter-day folk-rock opera. While the results are occasionally quite pretentious, they are ultimately quite rewarding and prove that Hammer is an individual in the world of British folk-rock.
