After being dropped by Casablanca in 1977, Rare Gems Odyssey changed its name to Rare Gems and resurfaced on the small California Gold label with its second album, Million Dollar Disco. This 1979 LP didn't do any better than the band's first album, but it's a competent disco-funk effort. Rare Gems steers clear of ballads and slow jams this time — the disco era was in full swing in 1979, and the Los Angeles residents take dead aim at the dance floor on pleasant, if unremarkable, tracks like "Love's Hall of Fame," "I Like Disco Music," "Disco Jam," and "Make Your Life So Easy." None of the material is mind-blowing, but none of it is terrible either. Rare Gems' second album (which was produced and arranged by Arthur G. Wright) turned out to be its last; in 1980, the band called it quits.
