In 2001, Philippine record company Warner Music Philippines released The Very Best of Rachel Alejandro, a collection of songs recorded on two albums for the label by Philippine artist Rachel Alejandro. The two albums are 1997's Mixed Emotions, which featured a modern outlook, and 1997's Dito Sa Puso Ko, which was dominated by bland Philippine love songs. Eight songs from each album are on this collection. As might be imagined, the songs from Mixed Emotions fare the best here. These include the vibrant, dance-inflected vibes of "Magic," "Foolish Pride," and "Walk in Love," as well as the penetrating balladry of "I Still Remember," which has a soulful, elegant touch; "Ba't Gano'n" (Why Is It Like That); and the incisive "They Know...It's Over." The best song from 1997's Dito Sa Puso Ko is the tender ballad "Bakit ang Pag-ibig." The other ballads from that album sounded bland then, and sound bland on this collection. Still, when songs from both albums are mixed together, the result isn't so bad, and The Very Best of Rachel Alejandro is a worthwhile release.
