In 1996, Philippine female singer Rachel Alejandro released the Christmas album Sa Araw Ng Pasko (The Day of Christmas) on Philippine independent Alpha Records, for which she has recorded a number of albums.

Rachel Alejandro has an excellent voice, versatile and elegant. However, much of the music on her regular Alpha Records releases consists of bland easy listening material, which doesn't pose much of a challenge. Still, she sang several adventurous numbers which indicated she has a talent for material other than easy listening.

Surprisingly, the music on Sa Araw Ng Pasko is more adventurous and more modern than most of the music on her regular Alpha albums. Sa Araw Ng Pasko is well-rounded and cohesive, and stands as an excellent effort, ranking musically as one of Alejandro's best albums.

The opening song, "Sa Araw Ng Pasko" (The Day of Christmas), has Rachel Alejandro singing coyly over a jazz-influenced rhythm. Her voice blossoms as the beat picks up, and she then returns to her initial coy singing, sounding cool and confident. The svelte, jazzy guitar playing is reminiscent of jazz guitarist Larry Carlton.

On the Christmas ballad "December Desire," she sings seductively in the lower register and shows much poise on the enchanting, Paul McCartney-penned "Wonderful Christmas Time." She puts forth a marvelous, soulful performance on "Can't Wait Until Christmas," which features spirited horn flourishes, a syncopated backbeat, and an adventurous female backing chorus.

Rachel Alejandro also handles with confidence and verve the tuneful "Give Love on Christmas Day," first heard on the Jackson 5's 1970 Christmas Album. Sa Araw Ng Pasko is an excellent album, Christmas or otherwise.
