Questions in Dialect are definitely a group that one cannot easily warm up to. With haunting, eerie and creepy organ work that would be found at either a hockey arena or during a horror film, a song like "On This Hand" seems to falter early on. The fact that some flute-like accents are added only adds more confusion to the light, jazz-tinged feel. From there, the group offers up an equally head-scratching tune titled "Thought Procession" which has an ambient foundation but again is initially diminished by some quirky blips and beeps. However they redeem themselves with the rest of the song quickly thereafter, creating a tension that seems to work. The six-song EP is sprinkled with two brief instrumentals, neither of which add much to the overall proceedings although "Blank Staircase" is the more inviting of the pair and brings to mind something off of David Bowie's Outside album. Perhaps the highlight of the release is the adventurous and challenging "Train No Track," which could be mistaken for an outtake from Radiohead's sessions for Kid A. "From a Cloud" ends the release with an hymn-like, ethereal flavor, melding music and voices perfectly.
