Yonkers, Long Island, and Money Earnin' Mount Vernon), when it comes to emcee-density, there's definitely a case to be made for Queensbridge. The sprawling public housing complex in Long Island City, Queens, has produced OGs like Marley Marl, Blaq Poet, and Craig G, plus thug-rap pioneers Nas, Cormega, Mobb Deep, Capone, Big Noyd, Nature, Lake, and Screwball. All of them are represented on this great compilation of blood-splattered murder music originally released in 2006. Dealing pretty much exclusively in payback, revenge, loyalty, gunplay, and narcotic distribution, some of the 19 songs here were originally found on different albums, while others are exclusive to this project. As popular rap music has shifted more toward day-glo fashion trends and heart-on-your-sleeve emotions, QB crime stories have lately fallen out of favor. But this still has some fantastic stuff. Don't sleep on "Shoot Em Up," "Move Like This," "We Gon Buck," or "Just Listen."
