Speaking of country-rock: Poco’s ninth album continued to prove they were one of few ’70s bands great at educing instant nostalgia and sing-along heartache. With its pedal steel and fiddle workouts, “Lovin’ Arms” optimistically suggests that love is the only thing that lasts, while “Makin’ Love” takes its country-rock to straight-up pop heights. Low-bowing strings darken New Orleans noir in “Down in the Quarter,” and there isn’t a better, more country-rollicked version of Steely Dan’s “Dallas” anywhere. “Us” features guitarist Rusty Young’s debut as lead singer, and it charms. Yes, Poco had lost bandleader Richie Furay, but it hardly mattered.
