Paul Is Live is the souvenir from Paul McCartney’s 1993 New World tour and features most of the band that played on his previous world tour, which resulted in the Tripping the Live Fantastic concert album. This time around, the band were supporting the Off the Ground album, which had been primarily recorded live in the studio. The chemistry was so strong among the band members that McCartney included “Robbie’s Bit (Thanks Chet),” an instrumental from guitarist Robbie McIntosh inspired by country guitarist extraordinaire Chet Atkins. The set also includes a generous amount of Beatles songs, including many The Beatles never performed live, such as “Magical Mystery Tour,” “Penny Lane,” “Lady Madonna,” and “Here, There and Everywhere.” The inclusions of old rockers like “Kansas City,” “Good Rockin’ Tonight,” and The Beatles’ own “I Wanna Be Your Man” sends the crowd into pure ecstasy.
