Released four years after 2005’s Healthy In Paranoid Times, Our Lady Peace’s seventh studio album was produced by the band’s singer Raine Maida. Maida has been busy co-writing songs with American Idol’s seventh season winner David Cook, who championed O.L.P. as his biggest influence. The collaboration with Cook also may be why Burn Burn sounds more accessible than any of O.L.P.'s prior works. But though Burn Burn may sound sleeker, the songs are well crafted and show a maturity in content and arrangement. The opening hit “All You Did Was Save My Life” instantly propels O.L.P. into the intelligent arena-rock stratosphere with the likes of U2, Coldplay and Kings Of Leon. “Monkey Brains” is another standout track, bouncing and lulling with the pomp and romance of a Britpop band, not unlike the reunited Verve. “Paper Moon” closes the album — a power ballad that plays with the triumphant feel of a cinematic climax. Bonus tracks include the driving “Time Bomb” and “The Right Stuff,” a winding tune that’s as danceable as it is catchy.
