Swisha House are the kings of screwed and chopped in 2004. The production house has cranked out the street-level mixtapes at a ridiculous rate and they've been called up by the likes of P. Diddy to do work for the majors. With their profile getting higher, it's a ballsy move to release another in their "Gifted Series," a series where artists "gift" their recordings to the House for proper screwing and chopping. Hard to believe that Prince, Beyoncé, Alicia Keys, and a whole lot more "gifted" these original recordings to the remixers, but they're here. With a very different style from his Swisha House brother Michael Watts, O.G. Ron C does less screwing (he only slows things down to about three-quarter speed) and a whole lot more chopping (he loves to hear vocalists stutter). He's happy on the filter too, making tracks like OutKast's "Prototype" whoosh around the room. When the remixer inserts his own voice into the phone call on Alicia Key's "U Don't Know My Name," it's worth a chuckle, and the album's slowed-down porno intro is hilarious. Newcomers still need to consider whether or not they can take an hour of slowed-down and stuttering R&B, but fans of the hallucinatory genre are treated to many more trashy, guilty pleasures. The fact that such an obvious and oddball boot is available through major channels is fascinating, doubly so when you consider the House released F - Action 37.5 the very same day.
