This comprehensive Oasis retrospective — released at the prospect that the rift between Liam and Noel Gallagher is irreparable — features just about everything a casual fan would ever want to know about Oasis. The Deluxe Edition is the better value with 47 audio tracks and 40 videos. It’s more than just the bare essentials and includes all the band’s British singles and American hits and iTunes exclusive live tracks from the London Festival, where the band’s pop sound turns dark and grungy as the manic crush of “Rock ‘n’ Roll Star,” “Cigarettes & Alcohol” and “My Big Mouth” meet the sweet arena cheer and smooth flow of “Don’t Look Back In Anger” and “Champagne Supernova.” Oasis were England’s leading band throughout the ‘90s, taking the crown from Suede and keeping it from Blur until all the Gallagher’s cheeky hype turned themselves into genuine superstars. The standard version collects 27 studio-approved cuts, but this is one place where it should be a no-brainer as to which version is essential.
