If the members of Fleetwood Mac or the Eagles had decided to assemble and produce an all-female vocal quartet, the outcome might have sounded something like Mulberry Lane. On Run Your Own Race, these four sisters from Omaha, NE blend pop, rock, folk, and country in a way that often recalls the harmony-driven soft rock groups of the '70s. The album, although generally likable, isn't magnificent, but its best songs let us know that Mulberry Lane definitely had potential. When the siblings bring their congenial, sweetly melodic sound to "I Believe It's Love," "I Don't Love You," and the haunting "Crisis Line," you can hear how much potential they have. Their sound is an attractive one — what they need is a consistently excellent album to go with it. Decent, if uneven, Run Your Own Race gave the impression that for Mulberry Lane, the best was probably yet to come.
