[Edit]Muggsy Spanier's short-lived orchestra recorded just seven selections in the studios during 1942 before disbanding, but fortunately this 1976 LP preserves a full album of the big band's radio performances. The cornetist's group was a bit reminscent of Bob Crosby's and had among its soloists trombonist Vernon Brown, tenor saxophonist Nick Caiazza, pianist Dave Bowman and (on its last three numbers) clarinetist Irving Fazola. This collector's LP (which is highlighted by "Chicago," "At the Jazz Band Ball," "Sunday" and "Columbia the Gem of the Ocean") is highly recommended to swing and Dixieland collectors.
