Details
[Edit]This set combines highlights from Miles Davis' 1949 Birth of the Cool sessions for Capitol in 1949 with his two early-'50s sessions (one with a sextet and one with a quartet) for Blue Note Records, material that had previously been collected on the Birth of the Cool, Ballads and Blues and Young Man with a Horn LPs, and as a single three-disc set in 1993 as Miles Davis: The Blue Note & Capitol Recordings. Miles would go on to record much more innovative and essential (and controversial) sets for Prestige and Columbia, but these sides provide a valuable glimpse of a young Davis still relatively on the traditional side of things.
